My stock Hitachi F30A bearings went out during my last board and I would like to replace them but can’t find the sizes of the bearings online. After getting the pulleys off and getting to the actual bearings will they say the size on them? I read on a different thread for the p20sb that this puller(http://www.harborfreight.com/14-piece-gear-puller-set-30305.html) should do the job so I assume it’ll be fine for mine also.
I think these are what you’re after.
Mako, I don’t think those will work because they have different part numbers so I’m assuming they are different sizes?

Those are not stock bearings. They are sealed so yes they would have different item numbers.
I was referring to the stock part numbers for the bearings (the links provided show a breakdown of all of the parts for both planers). I understand the aftermarket bearings won’t have the same part number.
Ryan,
Glad you already removed those bearings.
When they freeze, the plastic seats they sit in melt.
Game over.
Make sure to replace with sealed ones.
…all needed info will be be written on the casing of the bearing…small writing , so a magnifying glass will be handy…or take them to your nearest bearing supplier , and he can caliper them , and give you the correct new ones…bearings are generally generic , by dimension…IE thickness , type , and inner and outer radius …cheap chinese are best avoided.
cheap chinese are best avoided.
Isn’t that the general opinion in most cases?
HAHA!
I got it completely apart and found the sizes (6201,6200,608, 629). They are the same as the p20sb except I don’t believe the p20sb has the 629 bearing. Would you guys bother buying the puller from harbor freight or would you just take it to someone?
I was going to recommend going to: www.erplacementparts.com. They will have the schematic and all parts. I’ve used them for years now.
Don’t relplace them with anything but sealed bearings. Waste of time otherwise. L
Mcmaster Carr double sealed will last thousands of boards. You get what you pay for.

i dont think that gear pullerset is what you want

The series coding on the bearing is somewhat difficult to understand; all you need is the thickness (width), inside diameter, outside diameter. Get double-sealed regular ball bearings at McMaster-Carr using the measurements. Removing/installing is another story, but keep in mind that a hammer is not the correct tool. Refer to Grasshopper’s posts for some methods.
Special ABEC types, lubricants, ceramic types are worthless at +15K rpm. The max rpm for any bearing of this size is about 20K, so there’s only a 25% margin (100% or more is the usual design limit). A good measure of wear is to replace them with every second set of brushes (25% brush left) but that’s just my opinion and I’m retentive about stuff like that. Planers are designed for very intermittent operation and they wouldn’t be very practical with the huge bearings needed for continuous duty at this high rpm. You have to remember that these tools were never designed for shaping. All were designed to run along a door bottom for about 36"; less than 30 sec on then off. Easy to see why a big metal planer with a huge motor that will last 50+ years works so well for this purpose.
