fabric inlay tail patch

I want to do a fabric inlay for a tail batch on the bottom of a board with a full tint/pigment bottom lam.
Im thinking i should lam bottom with 1 layer of 6 oz and my tint/pigment, tape off and do my inlay for tail patch, and then cap it all with a layer of 4 0z wrapping to the deck.
My question is when i cut the inlay on top of the first bottom lam, is it necessary to do a small cheater coat up to the inlay cut line and then feather/sand flush before i cap with the 4 oz so that there is not a big ridge to hit when i do final sand?
thanks sways!

…hello, will be too heavy that way; may be is a longboard…
The fabric or paper inlays normally go on the foam.
laminate the inlay clear then laminate over the cloth with the tint. I made this one few days ago.

Can you elaborate on how to put the inlay down first and then manage the orange tint without getting orange on top of the overlay? My brain is too simple to dissect this on its own…
That thing is pretty damn sweet!

thats the glass schedule im using, it is a stringerless eps. not worried about weight.

That is a fine looking board reverb. Here is what im looking to do essentially but i will have a more pigmented bottom as opposed to the tint pictured.

You do the inlay as a cut lap and the colored glass as a cut lap then a clear over those.
I would do the color first, then tape off that lam to cover it and do the inlay then either do a full layer of clear or a partial layer of clear depending on how large the inlay is. If you do a opaque color, make the tape line thick so it will be easier to see and cut against. If you can cut the fabric cleanly to fit the inlay area, you could do the inlay and a clear layer over that at the same time.

For the longboard, I did the deck first as a cut lap, then I did the bottom fabric inlay. I added a full layer of clear glass over the fabric wrapping around the rails onto the deck, then a layer of clear on the deck wrapping the rails again. I sanded the lap after each clear layer was added. On the balsa top board, I used a light coat of spray adhesive to hold the fabric then I cut it and laminated the fabric with clear glass over the fabric at one time.

Fernando,
That is a very attractive surfboard. Clearly done to the highest professional standards. Points given !

That is one of the most beautiful things these eyes have ever seen!

…Bill and Surfer O thanks for your kind words but I am a bit disappointed about the color work on that board. First looks somewhat Orange but I tried to did a caramel tint (looked caramel in the bucket and in the first passes in the lamination); then is not totally uneven due to this tint (or mix) started to gives problems and with the hurry until gel time, there s a bit of bright spots or marks.
The board was for a shop I told them my concerns but they did not even saw these blemishes when they checked the board when arrived to pick it up.

-Mr Macdugal and Deez, you can do it like Sharkcountry is saying but in my opinion Arctic foam is so heavy that doing a heavy glass schedule is too much for my like so I did the inlay with clear taped like Sharkcountry says then I did the caramel tint and clear on the inlay; that way I used two layers instead of three.
With PS you can do the other way too.

Gorgeous board, reverb. Love the pin lines.
