Fan into a collective filter system.

Would love to hear anyones ideas on a sanding room fan and filter system.  Building new sanding room in shop and want to stop exhausting outside.

Hi,

The best is a fan system producing a downward aiflow so the dust is pulled down and don’t mess everything.

So passive or active inflow on top of the room, and outflow near the floor.

Torin extractor in a box with soundproofing foam or an equivalent to reduce the noise, and a small conduct which enter en garbage with a fabric bag of top as we usully see for wood-working shacks:

Sry for the crap drawing… but u got the idea…

U can also use a cyclonic system, but I’m not sure how it’ll perform for fine sanding dust…

Below link is to a master's thesis studying how a multi-cyclone system works for surfboard sanding dust, tested at a Cobra facility in Thailand.

The pictures start around page 92.

I have fresh air supply on one side of the room at waist high (coming from my house HVAC); a JET dust filter hanging from the ceiling near the other side of the room, and an exhaust fan behind the JET that takes the dust-filtered air outside. So the air flows across the room from one side to another, with a constant flow of fresh air. Don’t know if it’s the ideal setup but it works well for me. I can sand boards and am not in a constant cloud. Air stays clear while I’m working.
