I would ride it though

ding repair nightmare…
what about shaping and glassing it, that would be time consuming.

the highlight for me of the 'M.P. ’ book, the glasser’s reaction when M.P. showed him the shaped blank !!
[that, and the ‘bellbird’ shaping sessions]

hard to tell from the photo…I think the replicas he made in '96 or so for Kelly and Lisa [anderson] did…on the DECK !!
ben
somewhere in my collection I have the article and photo of those ones…
Ah… You got that out of waves, didn’t you…?
2002? I remember there was a more modern/less extreame model in last years board review…
Yes it deffinatly looks good, have you ever been lucky enough to ride one ben?
Josh.

surf photo detective found this…
I saw Brian Keaulana riding one similar to that (the “fangs” were less incut) at Makaha a few years ago, and he was telling one of his friends that it ripped.
Of course I think he would have been ripping on ANY board, but hey…
from what i remember of his bio, i think that the fangtail was designed to visually intimidate rather than physically perform. mp could mop up surfing on a maccas tray.
That design really brings down the area in the tail quickly.
That should result in the ability to sink that tail and do some fast positive pivot turns with a single fin. Double wing swallows were once very popular for single fins just before the Thruster came on. I enjoyed an early one made by Diff for Leonard Foster in Haleiwa that was fast, loose, positive, and rode North Shore waves way larger than one would think possible for it’s size, a 6’10. This Fangtail seems to take that idea one step further. I wanted to try one when I first saw that article way back when. I can see it being good in hollow or bowly waves.

There is even a LESS extreme one, Last years board reveiw with Parko at backdoor on the cover and the first page called ‘care factor’.
My scanner won’t work but heres what it said…
Shaper: MP
Length: 6t4
Width: 19 1/4’
Thickness: 2 5/8’
Rail: Low
Nose: 13
Tail: 15
Comments… Made for shorebreak waves e.g. D’bah. Michael belived that more tail area would give greater Manuvability in small waves. so he made this 15’ tail area design called the ‘fangtail’ to ‘fang’ on through!
Taken from Waves, last year page: 101
Josh.
was it still a triple wing pintail, Josh ?
I think parko, or is it fanning, also has a ‘jet bottom’ in his quiver too…I remember seeing it in ONE of those videos…maybe ‘fanning the fire’ or 'three degrees '? [they’re in their garage with some of their boards, whoever it is]

Josh.
i see 6 xtra (points) perfect for injuries
Damn, you mean to say it had 3 wings, I should have checked before finishing mine…
Thanks for reviving the thread Hix, the moon rocket looks good!
The board I mentioned above was actaully the same as the original thread starter but shot from an angle showing the deck channels.
