Fast n'Final Question

Is this still the product of choice for sealing blanks?

Do I need to reduce it with distilled water? why distilled water?

thanks

Don’t know if its ever been the best product available, but it’s certainly the easiest and cheapest product. Use distilled water so the minerals in tap water don’t degrade or yellow over time. I recently used denatured alcohol to thin out Fast n’Final. It helped it spread nicely, dry much faster, and seems to be holding up still.

Maybe someone who knows better will confirm this, but i believe microballoons are the best option. Or if your EPS is of high enough quality you don’t need to seal it at all (though I’m not sure how one knows if the foam is up to snuff…)

You'll know if it needs sealing after you shape it. If it doesn't have a bunch of bead tear-out, it's good to go with glassing.

Back to the F and F Spackling, I use Future Floor Finish to thin it as the acrylic is non-yellowing and helps as a binder.

thanks guys.

If I understand the concept you don't cover the entire board with this stuff, its just to fill in the holes and smooth it out. Is that correct?

Why do you water it down? just ease of use?

you want a consistancy of mayonaise, spread it with your sqeegee, pull off the excess with the sqeegee on the flats, and use your gloved hand on the rails.
