Hi, guys I was wondering what the quickest way I can get a decent glossy finish. The fastest way I have found now is sand up to 400 grit and use spray lacquer to finish it up. It isnt as glossy as using a buffer but is alot less work. Also how would you get a textured finish?
If you’re using a spray gun, adding baking soda to the paint, will produce a flat finish. For a heavy texture, if that’s what you’re after? I don’t know. The baking soda trick is used by automobile restorers.
Textured finish; Mask off the deck exsposing whatever areas you want textured. Buy some ground acrylic from Fiberglass Hawaii. Mix a healthy amount into whatever medium you use for a clear coat. Spray with an HVLP cap spray. Use a larger orfice than normally. Spray and pull the tape. I used to use automotive clear coat two-pak. It would also probably work with acrylic lacquer. This is as used on Sailboards. I've heard of guys using sugar as well. Never tried that one myself.
Wow. You guys help so much. Thank you.
