So, I’m FINALLY picking up my new egg this week. Needless to say, I’m stoked out of my mind. I’ve been waiting over 6 months now [not due to my shaper, due to money.] But, it’s my first thruster…I decided that a thruster set up was realistically better for most of the waves I surf and my experience level, it also gives me the most room to grow. I’m used to my single fin, but she’s a longboard so the feel is all different anyways. But, I’m sitting here on my computer looking up different FCS fin options and it’s a bit overwhelming and I have no clue what to look for. All that said, I’m about 5’11" and 190 pounds, typically surfing anywhere from ankle slappers to a couple feet over head [although I doubt I’ll ever use the egg for those 1’ days.] Most likely I’ll keep the egg for chest high+, and I might try pushing my size limits up some since this board will like the faster steeper waves a bit better than my noserider does. [She’s gotten mad at me a few days when I’ve taken her out in 7’ close out barells…] I can’t remember if my shaper said he was including fins or not…I guess I’ll find out Friday! But, if he doesn’t I want to know exacly what fins to go out and buy and I have not a clue due to the massive amount of options. Money is a bit tight but if the set up is worth it than I’ll spend the extra money!
- more info or some pics will help with fin suggestions…rocker ? bottom contours ? I’d be asking ya shaper what fins he suggests or what he had in mind when he designed it for you…
Rocker I believe is going to be just a moderate rocker, nothing crazy. I don’t know what bottom contours will be on the thing, but he does a lot of single to double concaves with v in the tail. I can’t say for sure that’s what will be going on with mine but we’ll see! I’ll definitely ask him I just aways like more opinions and I like to get the knowledge of what things to look for in shortboard fins since I have no clue!
the large size Simon Anderson fin would be a great choice .
