Favorite Fin System To Surf And Why?

I’ll start off with my favourite, Proboxes. Feels drivier to surf than any other fin system I have tried, those other systems being FCS, Speedfins (now gone?) and Futures. Stick a fibreglass FCS fin into a Probox box instead of a fibreglass Probox fin into a Probox box and I’ll think you’ll notice the performance suffer as well. Board doesn’t feel as drivey in my experience. Now for yours…

1. glass ons

expensive, because you need a quiver, instead of 1 set of fins for several boards

but strong, great feeling, looks good too

2. fcs fusion

because i have loads of fcs fins

and i can install fusion mysyelf, easily

3. Single Fin Box

Practically impossible to mess with, super simple and easy to use.

note:

Don't really like 4wfs, not because it is not a good system but becasue you have sooo many options to choose from, my head starts spinning. Too much to think about for my backyarding head.

Haven-t surfed anything else that i also installed, futures needing an expensive install kit, which obviously is bad...

Love my lokbox setup and the new fins they have are perfect for my surfing. lbx2 and 3.8 for quads have been nice I want to try the tnox fins in the front

Why? they are glassed in, the vacum jig rocks! the new micro box’s are sick and I have got great support.

I'll say probox as well. I really like the fins as well, just nice feeling fins!!

do yo pro box guys change the cant in your fins often ?

looks like a great system !

any of you down under guys like the surfingz system?

I'm a backyard repair guy. I really love those FCS plugs.....So easy to fix...

Too bad everyone went to boxes....my backyard repair business went down 50%......

Good thing I have a reall job!

Probox for me....

Ray

Futures over fcs anyday for strength and installation , pity about availability of fins and price here!

Surfins seems a good system, similar install to futures but fcs fin compatible, best of both worlds…

fcs fusion. its very easy to install. fusion is installed under the glass, so there arent all the problems associated with the plugs and weaknesses since there was no glass over them, and the high density foam that goes around the base of the plugs really makes a noticeable difference with eps. maybe not as many fin options as with probox and the fins and systems are a little more expensive than other stuff. but an overall easy system to work with for the surfer and glasser.

the only complaint i have is how the cant angles are limited to 0 degrees, 5 degrees, and 9 degrees. with the plugs you could put a fin in and cant it however you wanted it. but i dont think anybody short of a pro will notice a huge change if the fins have a 2 degree cant difference.

ease of install,,,, Probox

ability to change fin position,,,, Probox

ablility to change cant,,,,,,,Probox

no special tools required,,,, Probox

install kit afordable,,,,, Probox

I dig Lokbox. Strong, adjustable, and you can kiss cheap-a$$ hex keys goodbye forever.

Probox, for all the reasons already mentioned

I like both FCS Fusion and Probox.  The only complaint I have against the Probox system is the weight, FCS is just a little bit lighter.  I don’t notice but I have heard some complaints.  The FCS install kit is more expensive but is more durable and I have the same issue with the limited cants.

i don't/haven't changed them often. i more or less changed them 'til it felt good then left it... for my hpsb quad, that's 8* front 6* rear (board has a deep single)... i'm thinking about changing the rears to more upright for waves where i need to make more sections. i'm thinking maybe it will give me more drive off the bottom??? on smaller waves, i'd also like to try 8* and 8*... it's all fun to play with and the difference between the different inserst is definitely noticeable... i have taken extra inserts and different fin sets out in a fanny pack although, that day, the waves turned out to be really good and the board was working really well, so i didn't mess with anything. i started using Probox because the install kit was inexpensive and the install seemed basically idiot proof... i continue to use them for all the reasons posted above and, i'd like to make my own fins (hopefully soon) and it seems like the easiest system to do that for too.

does anyone else think that it's pretty cool that we have all these great fin/finbox options and board design is so diversified? does anyone remember 10 years ago?

Probox!

+1 for Futures.

Very strong system, no gap between fin and board, easy installation (not necessary to buy the kit, just make 2 templates and use a router) and just one small screw per box that you can lose...

4 Way Fin System (http://www.4wfs.com/) !!!

It is very light, you can rotate the angle and adjust the forward/backward too with an Hex key.

The disc is also made to broke when fins are hit…so you only need to change the disc without repairing your board.

It is not well known but it deserves to be tried out.

Oh!

my other favorite fin system is

The 10.5" fin box

I'm kind of partial to the new LokBox Micro Box that I just made a production mold for.  It still has the super secure matching taper fit and 1/4" of fore/ aft adjustability. But, now it will fit in super thin tail applications and they are over 9 grams per box lighter.

Probox for me .........

Not much more can be added about the obvious advantages of  the probox system, from installation right through to perfomance and quality.

For me they come into there own when travelling. From weekend runs up or down the coast to overseas search and surf trips. They are the "Swiss Army Knife Utility feature for surfboards" (lol)

Tough, adaptable and perfomance flexible that morph your surfboard to suit location and wave ..... (man, no need for me to lug as boards around anymore)

Anyway Probox for meeeeeeeeee

It seems like the general consensus is for Probox on this website with this group of guys.  I am wondering why Probox is not more popular for the companies that mass produce huge quantities of boards.  I know I havent ever seen one on a Patterson or a Cole, im pretty sure they dont show up on Channel Islands...

Why is this? are they uneconomical? harder to install when making a surfboard in an assembly line? are these shapers in agreement with FCS or Futures or whatever they use?

anyone want to take a guess at that? its stumping me.
