I am pretty much ready to shape my first board, all materials bought, I am just trying to make sure that I understand everything before i start and I’m getting there!
I want to make a great job on my first board, and I am concerned about fcs installation, not the procedure but I am concerned that making sure that there is a resin bridge to the deck will cause big marks under the glass and look ugly and amature. Unfortunately I didnt have any stickers come with my fin plugs to stick on the deck to cover any marks.
Any advice on how to minimalise ‘plug show through’ on the deck? I already have bought white pigment which I was planning on mixing with the resin for the plugs.
Maybe I am worrying about nothing, but I would like to get it right first time.
You are worrying about nothing… Circles that you can see on the deck side means it’s done right. I say, use blue or red pigment and make it cool and stylish. But if you want it to be less visible, white pigment will help. Consider tail rail patches?
thanks nj, nice to know that it shouldn’t be a problem, I think I will stick with white pigment. i also considered some carbon strips to cover the plugs on the deck but I figured that for my first board it will just be more to think about and I would prefer to keep this one as straightforward as possible.
One other little question regarding the installation, I assume that I add a little wax in styrene to the mixture when installing? Presumably wax in styrene would be ok and I wouldn’t need the styrene without the wax?
Yes… a little surfacing agent in the resin. A lot of guys go with some filler material as well, but I go with straight resin.
