Hey all,
This may be in the archives already, but I can’t find it…
Has anyone had luck using fcs boxes for a quad/fish set up? And, at what measurement off the stringer/rail?
If it is in the archives, simply point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Robert
Let me rephrase that post…
I basically wanted to know the satisfaction aspect of it, compared to say future/lokbox style glass ins.
Thanks
Hi “native son” !
yes , I’m satisfied with them !! That was fcs ‘plugs’ , actually …is that what you meant ? [ie not the fu type boxes they apparently make?for longboards? now]
I have used [fins unlimited aussie equivalent] “multifin systems” for a quad setup , as a comparison , but the board ended up heavier .

p.s. - with using three f.c.s. plugs for each of the side fins, you can get some of the movement a small f.u. type finbox allows , too !
Not sure about the fishy style quads, but for a normal thruster type shape, a very experienced shaper here in Hawaii says, front fins in normal place, front of the trailers about 2" back and 2" in from leading fins. I’m making one for myself, and glassing all 4 fins on, cause I hate myself (I’m sanding it)
Thanks for the reply. And yes, I meant fcs plugs vs. the fins unlimited boxes, known Stateside as lokbox. My assumption was that the fcs plugs were easier to install, as the bottom contour - ie concave - makes installing a larger, glassed in box more difficult. Are you finding that you have to set the leading fin/plugs at 5 degrees, or do the built in fin angles work?
I am glad to hear that they are working well. I can’t wait to try them out. I see a few people are giving the curved fcs fins a whirl, looks interesting.
thanks again.
thanks for the input. i was going to glass on too, but here in the Bahamas I have to travel a lot, and I don’t trust our national airline too much. Besides, I do other things because I hate myself…lol
take care.
well , I guess now that I’ve done some bonzer runners which the finbox tab snapped off , I’ll have a go at putting them in as front quad “fins”…
I normally just have the fcs plug’s angle [is it 5 degrees ?] for the fins I make , they just fit in the plugs .
It WILL be interesting to have angled side runners , bonzer-like , on my prawn …the only configuration I haven’t tried so far.
I’m thinking my next fish will be four sets of plugs , and a back finbox …with hopefully a proper bonzer bottom .

I just got a mandala quad a month ago, and got those lokbox turbos, you know the curvy quad fins and they’re pretty good. So while i did not enjoy installing them, let me say atleast the fin system preforms well, if thats any help in deciding. Plus i can fart around, there is about 1/2 inch of space in each box, so the fins can go fowards, or back, but no cant adjustment.
maybe that will help,
