FCS H2 fins

I’m going to be making a 6-10 step up board. I’m trying to decide on the fins. When I tried FCS’s “fin selector” they gave me H2’s. I realize it might just be a marketing gimmick. The H2’s are their most expensive fins. But I see them on Ebay for alot less. Maybe people don’t like them? ANyone have any experience with them?

Attached is brd file.

Hi LB,

i have 2 sets of them, [1 bought off of sways] that work just fine. You can also use the sides well on quads.

They are a lot more manoeuvrable compared to standard stuff. it has to do with the increased cant on these.

But for a semi gun? Why not buy those GREAT GPR-X Carbon by pat rawson.

Cheers

llilibel, i use the h2 side fins on quads and thruster but not the trailer. all small wave and every day boards but haven’t tryed it on a semi gun.

checked your file,

!! just my 2 cents !!

the tail looks real thick as do the rails in the tail.

the rails in the middle too are very bulky, but maybe good for the weight? and very round, maybe go a bit more towards 60/40 or 70/30 so it cuts through the water. Lower rails!

Outline looks good, so do front and nose rocker numbers.

I have ridden them and I would not put them on a step up. anything over head and they are too loose. great small wave fins. the fg series are really nice fins. not too stiff, not too loose. Not too drive but enough drive.

On my 7’2"M13 they make it magic.

I have had them snap on bigger waves (2x overhead).

With some boards I can’t tell the difference.

They are worth having around to play with cant on FCS,and very good for quads and rail finned boards.

Hi Wouter,

I’ve never really used AKU to a make a board. I’ve found it useful to get an idea of volume. I will use the outline template this time around. I wasn’t planning on being able to use the rocker and foil template. I don’t have enough room in my abode to store large blocks for EPS (I make my boards in our master bedroom) so I’ve never got a hotwire. I’ve gotten all my EPS blanks from SEGWAY Composites. Now they have the AKU shaping machine and Ken there said if I send him the board file he can cut the blank (foil) exactly to the file’s dimensions. The rails on that particular file are just the generic ones. I didn’t even touch them. I figure once I get the outline and foil the rails I will shape to suit them. Thickness too.

I’ll look for something other than H2’s as the board is intended for overhead plus waves.

Whoa. What’s the intel on that little bombshell?

Have a look at the C drive fins as a good option.

H2 medium/large sides and Harris 3D redtip middle is a good setup

You can also mix the, with a slater or merrick center

There’s a cheaper version your can get from Surfsource by x-fins. I bought a set of tarts(Lisa) for my FW Alternator around $30 or so for foam cores with a similar rake.

Robin has a set of glass proboxes that have a similar profile to the H2s.

Personally I kind of like either the Tom Carroll Redlines or the Merrick Carbon Lites. I only use FCS Carbon Lites the M5s aren’t bad but other than the carbons I prefer the Vector 3/2s.

What kind of boxes are you using?

I’ll check my fin stash…

Futures, FCS, Ofish’l, Probox mostly

For compsands I prefer Redx or glass on’s but their fins are hard to come by so probox is the default choice. Fiberglass Hawaii here carries a huge selection of Futures, Ofish’l, Glass-ons and standard box fins.

Hey Ililibel, Ive had an experience with some H2’s which I bought cheap from a pawn shop.

I put them on my shortboard which is a 6’2’ sort of nugget/double ender/slippah kind of deal.

At first it seemed to really loosen the board up, so I thought it was a small wave solution but as I got used to the fins and had a chance OH encounter at a powerful pointbreak I started to reconsider.

The extreme cant and thick foil definitley feels different…it seems to add a lot of lift to the board…it feels like it lifts the forward rail out of the water during turns, giving a snappy feeling.

Modifying my technique and applying more pressure to the forward rail (ie uhnder my front foot ) while the board was on a rail during a carving turn produced wonderful feelings of acceleration, drive and hold through turns…more so the further the board was tilted over on a rail.

Then I lost one of the fins .

I rang FCS and they replaced the fin FOC…now the new fin hums like a mutha so I had to take it out.

I would be very intersted to try these fins on a step-up board.

Here are some photos of the board and fin set up.

I too must confess to using the H-2s in overhead surf with good results. Held good in the steep bits,

and nice and loose on the face. The guy that designed these things knows his stuff when it comes to

optimizing the lift/drag relationship.

I like the H2 fins, they are especially good at giving a thick railed board more carve

yeah i like them as well

but i prefer sunny garcias

keen to try the TC quin setup and the simon anderson foil as well

…yes, I d put fins similar (with more tilt) to the speed d fins (H 2s are very similar to the front ones) in all of the last batch of fishes that I did with great results in OH or more in pointbreaks

with heavy (92 Kg) and lightweight (65 Kg) surfers

superb flow from rail to rail

also no problem in smaller beachbreak surf

I did some thick and others “normal” thickness but all rigid

I really check those boards surfing

cause I was very concerned about those fins…
