FCS keys

is their any way to get your fcs fins out if you do not have a fcs fin key? How would I do it?

Buy one. Or buy a hex key of the same size. regards, Håvard

Whats you address? I’ll send you a couple. Carl

This may be a bit redundant with the last answers but a FCS key is just an allen key in disguise. I bought a set and one of them fit. Hell, you might have one in your toolbox already!

Hey is tumbled in her today after i lost my key, at the shops don’t have any, is there any one you could send me one? heres my address Chas 405 Eastwind Cove Newport News, Va 23606

go to your friendly neighborhood hardware store and get a hex key or allen wrench. Same thing, lots of sizes and the one you want is around 3/32" or 2.5 mm - bring your board and check. Probably made of better metal than the POS metal they use in FCS keys, cost you about 25 cents or so. Get several, they’re cheap. hope that’s of use doc…

I heard they make the keys out of softer metal so you strip the key rather then the screw.

Ahmm… if they do, it’s not a great idea. That tends to round out the socket and mung it up so that even brand new keys won’t work. More likely that’s one of those ‘Oh yeah, I meant to do that’ things when the key is softened by having hot plastic formed around it. Typically, I’d think injection molding is done at what would be a pretty good annealing temperature. The thing is, socket screws and hex keys are so cheap, pennies each, that it’s not the worst idea to just replace 'em every time you loosen them, or even faintly in doubt. I know I get pretty good money for replacing FCS plugs with stripped screws. Best to have lightly waxed screws and threads, clean sockets, new hard metal hex keys and you’ll have few problems. doc…

Futures keys are the same size and made of better metal. Use em instead.

chas- No problem, I’ll drop it in the mail tomarrow. Carl
