Im making a quad. What kind of plugs should I use for the back fins, rail or center plugs? I have done a search with no luck .Thanks I will try to post pics when finished.
go Probox.
rail plugs if you’re going with single foiled fins, toed in and canted
center fins plugs if your going with double foiled fins straight ahead and straight up and down
yep center plugs for double foiled at 2 degreesish
quads and quins are a bit of pain for fcs
i intend to use probox on the next for ease of set up
and the added bonus of dialing in the quad
dependant on what fins youre planning to fit as to what plugs to use, decide with the help of info from Bruce Mckee on the fcs website surffcs.com. it also depends on what country youre in as to the availability of other systems, here in the uk most shops carry fcs spares more than other makes as well as future systems but most of my customers prefer fcs.
Could I get some help please!? I´m confused.
Let´s see if I can make myself clear. I´ve been looking for examples (pictures) and I found everything.
(always speaking of the rear, back fins of a quad).
-
rail plugs with flat foiled fins (like the k 2.1)
-
rail plugs with 50/50 foiled fins
-
rail plugs with 20/80 foiled fins
-
center plugs with 50/50 foiled fins…
so what is correct? what should I do? A customer ordered me a little fattie 5´5´´ shortboard 5 fin option. I´m not giving him fins. So… I should recomend him what to buy.
First time doing 5fin with fcs plugs.
if your going to use double foiled fins( like center fins) then use a center box or plug
if your going to use single foiled fins( like your front fins are) then use rail plugs or boxes
if you go with future boxes though you need to use center boxes because all the trailing fins only have a half inch tang
Maybe I’m missing something, but the difference in the two plugs is the cant. If you want no cant, center plugs, if you want an angle, use rail plugs. I don’t catch what the fin has to do with it.

If you must use FCS, You should use FCS boxes. They are a great rip off of the Pro Box System.
The best thing about FCS plugs is that your repair guy will have lots of work fixing them when they fail. I really miss all the easy repair jobs I used to get from the FCS plugs. Go with boxes...I use ProBox but there's plenty of options...
You don't sound as though you've got the actual design of your board sorted out. In order to use FCS plugs you need to have sorted out your fin choices and placement of those fins. If you are not sure about the placement and whether or not you are going to use "double foiled" fins, then you would be better off to use Probox. This will give you the ability to at least change cant. The only thing you will have to work out will be the placement of the fins on the shaped blank. There are two options with regard to Quads. The Mckee setup which places the forward fin on the rail and the trailing fins off the rail and closer to the center/stringer. The other option being to set all fins on the rail. Typically when the Mckee setup is used the trailing fin is usually double foiled. When all four fins are placed on the rail they are usually single foiled. What you have to be absolutly settled on is the distance for each fin from the tail and the toe-in. The reason being that once you drill for an FCS plug or rout for a box like Probox or Futures that's pretty much it. Probox because of its use of inserts will allow you to use double or single foiled fins.
Could we ban wave fin and his kooky crap? I really hate spam I wonder if he is related to one we don’t speak of?
Hi,
That is ok I can just go willingly bye for now.
Thank you for the girvinsurfboards.blogspot.com/
Thank you and bye for now
Yeah--why don't you get your gig up and running. Post up under Announcements, Industry Talk and Surf Shop. Then come over here to General Discussion and ply your wares like FCS, Probox, Lokbox, Pipefins(remember they are recycled PVC aka old landscape sprinkler pipe) Greenlight, FoamEZ, Jim Phillips, Coil and countless others. Just go thru the proper protecol and no matter how ridiculous your product you will have legitmized yourself by being part of this phenomena(sp) known as Swaylocks.
