FCS twin fin set ups

I finally just tried an twin set up on one of my boards today, it was great for small mush. The board seemed so much faster and easier to paddle. I wasnt able to really tell the diffrence in handling since I was surfing a shore break, tommrow Ill surf a better wave. The set I demoed was the TF 1, I was wondering if anyone else had a chance to try the MR TFX. The shop that I go to only had the TF 1 avaliable for demos and there the same price $70. Never thought I would consider paying that much for fins, it was just so much fun especially. But to end this I was wondering about the diffrences of these two fins. I like the looks of the MR alot more then the TF but Im more concerned with function. The MR comes with a trailer and is recommended for boards up to 6’8 and the TF doesnt come with any type of trailer. Ive looked at them both and the only diffrence seems like the tips. The board Im using them on is a 7’4 if that makes a diffrence.

Ive added a couple of links to the two fins

Was that setup on a ‘twinnie’ or a standard thruster.

Hi, I might be able to offer you somthing.

I experiment with fin setups alot on my three small wave boards, a 5’11" hybrid fish (20 wide with 15 nose & 15.5 tail) and 6’ (with exact same dimensions) and a true twin fin of 5’10". All are FCS.

My favourite set-up on the hybrid fish is FCS fg-3 with a gs trailer in the middle. Works a treat in anything to chest high If the waves are alittle bigger I find a G1000 provides more control in the middle.

sometimes I use FSC FG-5 on the outsides and gs or gx in the middle but I don’t really like the bigger fins on the outside…doesn’t feel as skateboardy to ride.

Actually. If you’re in the mood try H-2’s on your small wave board…you’ll be quite suprised…I was.

the surfboard is a linden tri fin, im not sure what model it is exactly, its not on the website anymore. Those fins sound like it could be fun, Im looking for that skateboard feel when its small. The only thing is that I would like to invest in just one set that would give me this feeling along with speed, since this is the only board with FCS that I own and I install Futures on my others. Ill go to my surfshop and see if they have any of those fins for me to try out

I ride my 7’4" as a twin fin quite often, I just put the FCS Occy fins on and leave out the center fin… pretty much will rotate around the center of the board if you want it too.

Well it will be awhile now before I buy any set of fcs fins, since I took my board out today, hit some sand and blew a plug. The damn thing went right through the board, how would I fix this? There is still the hole that was used to install the plug, but it now goes through the whole board. I was thinking of filling the hole with extra foam, and use cabosil to fill the rest, then glass it over, re-drill the hole, then install the plug. I do like the occy idea for a fin set up though, Ive always wanted to try them out.

I had a similar problem when a longboarder ran my board over and broke off a fin, ripping a plug out of the board and leaving a gaping hole. I considered using a hole saw to make the hole neater and then plugging it with foam, but in my case the hole wasn’t too big, so I just reset a new plug with the usual mix of resin, milled fiber & white pigment. Had the board back in the water the next day. not quite as pretty as it used to be but whatever…

If your hole goes all the way thru the deck too, I think I would try to tidy up the hole, plug it with foam, reglass, and then install as in a new board. I wouldnt’ mess around with cabosil if you’re going to re-drill. But that’s just me, there’s more than one way to skin a cat.

BTW, it’s better not to run your boards into the ground like that!

Thats kind of what I ended up doing, using a hole saw to clean up the hole and making a plug out of old foam, then I used cabosil with resin and white pigment to fill those little areas that couldnt be filled with foam. I still have to sand it down and glass it over before I redrill the hole and set the plug. That will have to wait till next week because I ran out of resin. I still have two other boards to fix, so no surfing for me for a few days.
