Feel the algorithm...

Algorithm. Definition: A computable set of steps to achieve a desired result.

I can’t tell you how sorry I am that I got carried away and appeared to be a hi-jacker…

I assure you there is no plastic explosive in my Duck Feet flippers.

But my mind saw a link that I couldn’t quite put into words. A nature show I saw many years ago about a pod of dolphins and the scientists that would track them, has played over and over again in my mind. Each year a group of scientists would boat out and drop anchor and the dolphins would come, so dolphin, baby, man and woman could swim as one. But the footage that keeps scrubbing and unwinding was just an aside. The dolphin located a sea slug delicacy and offered it to a lady scientist. Isn’t that sweet. You made it here another year now here is your treat… What was a bother to me, was this treat was hidden under the sand and it was obvious to see that there was more going on in that Fido brain than, “Surf’s up dude! Hey I recognize that red triangle on the bottom of the pool, now jump in here so I can hump your leg and eat some mackeral, let’s get busy.” Do you see what THEY feel? SONAR IMAGES IN COLOR AND 3D??? Is prop wash just inherently ugly, or is it the damn motor noise? Classical music or mosh pit? See - ventilation or is that turbulence? Now where’s that list?

When we dip our fins into wave face and carve out a turn, are we painting beauty? With fins like a paint brush that paints fractally? Or are we just, THE BIGGEST DOPE IN THE SEA?

Question… Dude, why would YOU stare at the static that’s on channel three?

And here’s the kicker, how come they prefer Greenough’s mat?

Sleep tight…

We maybe are dope. Here’s a personal example ( I have many dope examples of a personal nature). Many years ago I was at Sea World San Diego, mid 80’s I think, at the petting pool, which contained dolphins, baby whales, baby Orca, and we were feeding them fish and being graciously allowed to pet the “animals.” I was holding a fish just off the edge of the pool, not looking, talking to my girl friend who stood next to me when a dolphin turned sharply, whizzed by, splashed me and made that laughing sound. I thought at the time that maybe it was to signal me to put that fish in reach, which I did. However, I was not really feeling well that day, had a blazing headache, and when I got home discovered I had a 102 fever. Was that dolphin just trying to cool me down to be helpful? See it any way you want, but we probably know nothing of their motives.

Daddio, they are better at the Great algorithm, algorhythm, than we are.

Went back to that pool often. Watched the animals feed the people of the sea. Began to weep for their captivity. Heard the pool was eventually closed down. Glad to hear it.

TGIF. Need some negative ions.

Many years ago I was at Sea World San Diego,

My (now) wife and I were at Sea World during that first recent El Nino winter…1983? Surf and high tides had seawater under the car in Pacific Beach, Crystal Pier washed away…anyway, we went to Sea World. We were by the elephant seals or walrus pen (never knew which is which) and a large family were there and one little boy was especially ritalin-deficient. One of the parents kept after him to tease the sea beast with an anchovy or whatever they sell…this went on a good obnoxious while. Then the sea creature put its big flabby nose up to the bars and blew about a pint of seal-mucus all over the kid. It was hysterically funny to witness. Too bad we didn’t have a camcorder.

Nice pictures you posted there.

Yep…though it’s a set of constructs lined up to hit a final construct - is there a pattern or is that too a construct, an artifact?

Humans are really good at seeing patterns in things - burning bushes and big noises in the sky, though later we find that they are not/were not there, the effects of ergot in aging rye bread or the alkaloids in the odd bit of cactus. Sometimes. Sometimes they are there, the energy of photons liberated as an electron bebops from one state to another, the trails of strange particles across a screen, the underlying background echoes of the blast that started it all.

We think. So far.

What would Flipper think of it all? Living in a three dimensional world with an upper boundary, with other dimensions of permeability and varying radar-like sound pictures, refractions, an underlying beat and convergence zones? What do they do with all thoes little grey cells in that other world? Without hands and with very different senses? A cetacean Descartes, " I _____, therefore I am", what goes in the blank there?

Hell, I dunno how I think, or why.

doc…I think

the word “surf” comes to mind. To fill in the blank, that is…

Are our words spoke lightly or do they carry some m.ass x2? I too miss pell for a reason, a season or more, cause that word be comes a be ll buzzing around in the mental flower that is the fertilized brain. ABC-Zygoat is a good start, but in reality is it a verb or contraction? Is the path that we take in life straight or an abstraction? There’s no theory I’ve run across that says learning isn’t a curve. And no poem that doesn’t put a new spin on a word. Take a letter from mass by dictation, sit here next to this river, drink a beer with Earth and p in the stream…

I had a darkroom setup in my bathroom when I went to JC, so when I first was married I set it up in our apartment. I recorded those first years of our life together, including the birth of our daughter, in black and white. My wife and I are both artists so needless to say those first years we’re the lean years, but in some ways the best of memories. One weekend we rode the train down to San Diego and took a bus to Sea World. I was tired of carrying my little gem - papoose style so I rented a stroller to gain that mechanical advantage. What’s the crowd excited about over there? It was that dolphin petting/feeding pool and there was a new baby swimming inside! When it was our turn in the front row I had my daughter in one arm and my camera in my right hand. My baby was so fascinated she was MINDFULLY blowing bubbles with the spit in her mouth. I’ll be damned if that baby in the water didn’t pose right in front of us and blow some bubbles of his own!

The next time a beautiful butterfly lands on your hand

remember that our body is as hot as the desert sand.

… She won’t stay long, but she’ll still write!

And now to my other one, a son that’s eighteen. I’m so happy - cause on this holy day, he said to me dad - to shape the board that I’m thinking about you need proper light… clean out the garage, old man, let’s get busy!

So, Mr. Tales from the Cryptic, are there two esse’s in ice cream, or is this two personnel a question?

And I agree, we are the same, but are we the sickness or part of the cure - is brain damage a result of expansion or contraction and does expulsion free you up to walk the path with less footprints in the sand? If we’re traveling through space, have we been here before, or is it only an A to B point of semantics? When YOU stir the soup, they’ll recycle and return… thanks, me too

Can every surfer fill in the blank, or is doc right, dude? Are unsaid words clever or just a chain and an anchor!?

Rinse and spit. By jove, Gazro got it, and all of the woodcrafters that take that first step and us air breathers that shape minimal membrane art!

Words, thoughts are a faulty algorithm, incomplete, and do not capture the full analogue.

Those whom heaven helps we call the sons of heaven. They do not learn this by learning. They do not work it by working. They do not reason it by using reason. To let understanding stop at what cannot be understood is a high attainment. Those who cannot do it will be destroyed on the lathe of heaven.

You guys should read the article on “killer whales” in the latest (was) National G. so trippy to think about the inner life of such a life form… what does a being do with such brain power when free of constraints brought on by these stinking fingers and thumbs with which we feel we do so much…

Yeah - TaylorO, thanks, man…

What can you learn in your own backyard or - can old dogs learn new tricks!?

LIVE THE QUESTIONS

Rainer Maria Rilke

Translated by Stephen Mitchell

“Have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and… try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.”

High Flyer.

I’m speechless, or not…

When I worked as a line carpenter on the sailboats, at the end of the day we’d go down to 56th street just to “paddle out” and get wet. One blustery day I went and sat outside and was just squirting water with one hand and making dolphin noises with my mouth, when all of a sudden a dolphin soared in the air and I won’t give the measure in meters cause what was memorable is we looked in each others eye. And the wind carried his rainbow contrail right in my face, all fifteen drops of it. NOW I remember my promise that I made that day, to champion the rights of all in the sea, and I owe that to you, jeff. Thanks to your two words and picture, I’ll soon be back in the ocean, as I unwind the weight of this unspoken chain - link by link.

Takeoff.

Takeoff.

Yeah - jeff, thanks, man…

One man’s takeoff is one dolphin’s pullout!!! Just gotta sleep on it.

It’s just OUR point of perspective.

I wish I could of been the kid who told Greenough, “there’s no spoon.”

The picture included is the answer and the reason?

Now where do YOU get straight balsa, all of mine has this curve…
