Few Questions to clear up some gray area

I have a couple questions…

  1. Is there a difference between sanding resin and gloss resin? What is the difference?

  2. I want to polish my board to a very high luster similar to the dark opaque blue board on the link below. I’ve tried with regular sanding resin but it never gets that shinny. What should I do?

  3. Should I use a wax solution in my hot coat to make the boards extra shinny? If so how many CC’s? (is it the same amount od CC’s as I would put catalyst?

4.Where can I order Kmack foam? (im not sure of the spelling but thats how its pronounced)

1 Sanding resin is laminating resin that has surfacing agent (a paraffin/styrene solution) mixed into it which come to the surface after its’s applied before the resin hardens. It makes the resin dry with a non sticky sandable surface.

Gloss resin is used as the final coat. It is formulated to flow out and dry to hard polishable surface. It too has surfacing agent in it.

2 Use gloss resin. FIne sand the board with 400,600 wet/dry paper. Polish with rubbing compound then polishing compound with a buffer.

  1. Sanding resin has the wax already in it. You can add more if you like.

  2. King Mack is Australian foam. Their US licencee is in Oceanside CA.

If you have sanding resin you should not need to add wax-in-styrene, but if you are using standard lam resin as your hotcoat you will need to add 2% wax in styrene. The purpose of this is so that the hot coat will dry in an oxygen free environment. It then dries hard and crisp and is sandable. If you leave out the wax the sanding process will contuinally gum up the sandpaper as the resin stays tacky without the wax.

For a gloss coat you will need gloss resin, and probably a double hot coat. To get a good finish you must get every earlier stage finished perfectly. Glossing is a hard skill to master.

Thanks A lot guys you’ve been extreemly helpful. This is a little off topic but people on this website are a lot more helpful than the people on NEsurf.com…All they do on that website is tell you how stupid your question was and why you shouldn’t have asked it.

Anyway thanks again bros
