Fin box (FCS) pre- or post-laminating?

Hi all,

I am not only new here on the forum, but also reletive new into surfing. Wanted to start surfing for quite a bit of years, but me living 100km from the coast and always having been engaged in another competitive sport, I only realy took up surfing recently.

Last 2 years did some surf lessons during my holidays on Fuertavetura and Tenerife. Back in NL, I kept practicing on a foam MiniMal. I got the hang of it and now want to make my own board just for the fun of it.

Having read a lot of DIY blogs and vids, I am very confident I will be successfull im making a decent board.

Got an EPS200 blank, shaped as a 6’6" Stubby like the one from TriggerBrothers. Ordered FCS Fin plugs for a truster setup.

But now I unsure what to do with installing the Fin plugs?! Should I do it before laminating the epoxy/glass, or after?

Most of the Vid blogs are post- because it is all about repairs. The vids from professional shapres let you see they do the fin markings pre-laminating. But it is not clearly shown that the install is also done before.

All your advise/experience is more than welcome.

Thanks for sharing.

Jake

If its the X-2s  Ths little black ones they go in after.

if its the Fusions, Origins, or FCS2  any of the number 8 shaped plus go in before.

It are the X-2 type. For my first board, these seemed easier to install. (without a router and template).

So first glassing it is.

Thanks for the response! Appreciated.
