fin box replacement ?

im going on a surf trip in two weeks. i noticed that one of my fin boxes was cracked - the center fin of my thruster on my shortboard. its the rear box of an FCS setup. see pictures

should i get this repaired before going or does it look ok?

thanks in advance!

Wouldn’t hurt to replace it, if in doubt.  Not a big deal, I would, especially if taking the board on vacation.

If the screw is taking a nice bite, I wouldn’t worry about it. If you didn’t want to replace it, you could just drill and tap a hole on the other side of plug. Be careful not to over tighten in the future. Good and snug is all you need.

it’s not a fin box.

People seem to think they have to tighten those things like twisting a screw into hardwood.

Ah yes,** FCS F**ix Constantly System.

If it holds the fin in it’s OK.

Fix consistently system… haha so true.

It seems once you drill them out and replace them they dont hold very well.

Thanks for the comments! If its not a fin box what is it called. Plug ?

It’s a plug, yes.

And despite those who deride its usefulness (with all respect to Barry who is an awesome shaper), I love the old school FCS x-2 plugs (like the one in your board). Easy to install and for me, bulletproof.  Bigger guys seem to have trouble with their strength, but at 165lbs I’ve never had an issue. And they are cheap too.

whats the worst that could happen ?

I liked the other response better!  :-D

Yes Huck, so did I !

But I ‘Snapchatted’ it before I got negative mail about kicking cats, SUPs and saying Fuck in a house of worship.

Huck, Im getting problems bringing up the Forum main page…?

I’ve done the same myself many a time, for basically the same reasons, or a variation thereof.  Shame 'tho, because it was a good’n.

The discussion pages are down.  I have tried to contact Paler, but don’t know if he got my PM or not, haven’t heard a thing.  Anyone in the Bay Area know how to contact him, maybe personally?

You can access an overview of the threads at   http://www.swaylocks.com/forum/active

You can also access individual threads via your internet “history” page, and via search function as well.  But General Discussion is down, for the present.   As well as the other folders, as far as I know.

Thanks Huck, I guess everyone blames themselves or hardware first and then realises its the site or servers in between.
