My surftech french 8’ hybrid has been hanging on the wall since I bought a H.P. longboard. The funboard always felt kinda corky and unstable for it size, and I found the longboard more nimble, easier to turn! However, the other day I figured I’d give the funboard another chance by making it a 2+1 (it is originally a thruster). This way I might try it as a single too.
Does it make sense to make a board like tis 2+1 or single and what to expect?
Are there any tricks with the veneer stech construction that must be taken into account (I’ve read some basic instructions for installing a box)?
Aloha , I feel it makes perfect sense . I don’t know why surftech makes some of the thrusters in the first place . I had a 8’2" McCoy Nuggett ''surftech" that came as a thruster . I was told it was Randy French who screwed this up and not McCoy. I had seen a 7’11" Nuggett that was single fin and thought the 8’2" would be the same . So I ordered one without seeing it . Very suprised an somewhat upset when I got it…
It was not too hard to change it .. Carefully used a rotozip to router out the old box and then got a friend .. and good glasser to glass in the new box . The only thing I learned to look out for is the off gassing from the heat when using the epoxy . Was told that the board had to be brought into a cold A/C area to let the epoxy set so the board wouldn't off gas and continue to "bubble" out thru the new fin box installation.. Hope this helps .. Just Do It..
