Fin Danger

At the end of the thread of “Post your hull Pictures” is a photo of a leg gash from a fin encounter.

Many fin configurations pose a hazard to the surfer.

I admit to making some that will leave their mark if the rider isn’t careful.

There
are some simple rules, one of which is that if you do wipe out don’t
come up out of the water quickly because your board may be directly
overhead.

There a few others that I’ll let the experienced surfers here post for the safety of all.

Aloha, Rich

yeah…

shorebreak surf is dangerous, if you miss your floater and the board flips, fins to the bone!

and just in general:

  • never paddle out behind somebody else

  • use a leash

Is there any way you could put one of your Mentals in someone’s car going down to Plaskett this weekend?

I’d like to buy one and try it out on my Spence.

Yo Afoat,

How big is the Spence? Specs? Rocker? The whole nine yards on it? I’d like to to try and get it right the first time.

Whose going down from Santa Cruz to the shindig?

I have soccer camp for 4,5, & 6 year olds this weekend, so it’s no go for me.

I’m glad to have a fin hitchhike down to big sur.

No Worries, Rich

Or stretched out at the end of the leash. Boiinng! Smack!
