Fin for Channel Islands MSF Single Fin?

Just had a board cloned off of a a 6’5" Channel Islands MSF Single Fin Machado board.

Anybody know what kind of fin is supposed to go on this board, and if there is an similar/identical non-CI brand fin on the market?

I didn’t do my research too well.

Mahalo.

Matters more what you weigh, what kind of surf, and how much hold you need.

Just a 8" narrow, normal wide based, raked longboard fin, from what I can see, is standard.

Midgets use 7.25", monsters maybe 9".

RT looks closer to what CI shows in their catalogs.

But different fins do different things, so you gotta know what you want, where, and how much pressure you apply.

i also like the fin used on the “Martinson X” model from Robert August and RFC’s “Wingnut Sweep”

Howzit going,

I surf a 7.5 FU cutaway and a 7.5 FU SWOOP fin in my 7’0 MSF and enjoy the results fully.

I didn’t like the fin that came with it. If you really want one I would be willing to give / trade it to you.

The fin selection has alot with how you surf / want it to surf… the swoop really gives good hold.

Appreciate the input. When the board is ready, I’m going to check out a couple fin options, including the swoop you recommended. If that doesn’t work, I might have to hit you up on your offer!

Hey,

I have a 6’5 CI MSF. I am 6’2 185pounds…Dam those things are floaty, but super fun. I wouldn’t go as thick in the rails as Al’s, when it gets big, it’s near impossible to sink that rail for a turn. I did not like the fin it came with. A bit too upright for me, felt stiff…I use a Rainbow 8.5 TK flex fin and found that to be the best match for me. Your’e gonna love that board.

Good luck!!!

I use a Skip Frye flex in my homemade 6’0" single fin… love it!

For these boards I really like the flex fins… go a little bigger in the fin and lean on that flex.
