oh its for a single fin
Hey wrobo, couple tips:
That might not be enough layers for a 3/8"+ thick blank - depends on how much you compress it. Wax paper, cellophane, vinyl all work fine, but I recommend at least taping them to the working surface, if not tacking with some spray glue - nothing more annoying than chasing your workaround the tabletop. Also, if you set that fabric in the middle of 40+ layers of 6oz glass, you'll lose a ton of detail and color (bubbles, patches of refractory weave, resin darkening etc.). For a much better looking fabric overlay, lay up your blank, shape and foil, laminate fabric on finished shape, and follow with another layer of glass. Hope that helps.
Good Luck!
32 layers of 6oz cloth........think about it...maybe more.......at some point you have to cut and sand all that stuff....
In California I can buy a longboard fin for about $50 retail.....not a bad deal when you think about all the work that goes into the fin........Two thumbs up for all the fin makers!!!
thanks guys
ditto… especially with epoxy.
Each layer of 6 oz is roughly 0.01 inches thick.
A Bahne finbox is made for a 0.350 inch thick fin.
Therefore it takes 35 layers of 6 ounce. Lay them 2-3 at a time, roll well, repeat. You can do a few extra and sand the fin tab down to fit, but 35 always worked pretty well for me.
If you use a fabric inlay put it in the middle.
Wax paper is a good idea.
