fin placement on swallow tail

Anybody have any reccomendations where I should put my fins? I made a 7’6 swallow tail fun board( copied from a friends board). I forgot to measure his fin placement! I am installing an FCS tri-fin set up so I can easily change them. The swallow ends are 6 1/4" apart, end to end. The tail cut to the stringer is 1 1/4" deep. Where do I measure from?

I use a smaller trailer rear fin for my 6’4" modern fish. What I did was place the fin on the board so that the tip of the fin lines up with the inside of the swallow. Works great for me.

For me it depends on the hip measurment( width 12" up from tail). Generally on a funboard of that length I will put the trail fin 4"+ up from the tail(tips on the swallow)and the side fins at about 13" to 13 1/2" up. I put the back of the fin no more than 1 1/2" in from the rail. Make marks at these points along the stringer. For the side fins:using a square make the rear marks measuring in from the rail, not out from the stringer. Then measure about 4 1/2" up from your 13" or so mark on the stringer. Mark for the front of the fins about 3/16" in towards the stringer from your rear marks for your toe in. Hope this isn’t confusing. Good luck. Ted K.

Right on! You guys are great! Thanks! Shane

Why not just make it a single fin like we did in the seventies?Do 3 fins really give you that much of an advantage or are they a disadvantage?Makes one think eh. R. B.
