Ok everyone, bust out the slide rules, its time for a pop quiz… Ok, maybe more like an optional word problem that would look really good in your permanant record.
These are my shapes:
They are now almost ready to hotcoat, so I need to rout out the boxes and install them… and I have no idea about fin placement. The fish shape is going to be a standard thruster setup, and the egg and the diamondtail are going to be 2+1 setups. Beyond that, I’m clueless.
So, who wants to take a stab at it? How far up the rail, how far out from the stringer (or in from the rail), and how far either outside or inside the nose should the side fins be aligned? Where should the center boxes go? I’m doing FU 10.5 centers on the 2+1s and future boxes everywhere else.
Saw your acid splashes on the Surfer BB…nice. As for fin placements, I placed my fish fins like this…front fins 12" from tips of swallow, 1 1/8" from rail, toed in about 3/16", 4 deg cant. the rear fin, I’ve been using a smaller trailer fin was set so the tip of the fin was in line with the inner v of the swallow. I also have a 7’0" egg that has the center box placed 5 1/2" from tail and the side bites 14" up, 1 1/8" from rail 3/16" toe in, 5 deg cant.
recently made a fish and used the same fin placements as foamdust suggested with trailer fin set at 4" up - the board flies. Can’t take the credit tho, Herb’s suggestions - thanks Herb!
