fin plug and channel bottom

I had in mind a twin fin design with the inside surface of a rail fin even with a channel.  I’ve seen it done with glass ons.  How about with a plug?  I figure you’re going to sand down the inboard side of the plug. Could you put the plug in with the grub hole on the outside/rail side and just tip the plug?  Anybody try anything like this?  Do I make any sense?

How much difference would it make to set the fin 1/2" outboard of the channel as opposed to flush with the channel.  Flush with the channel makes more sense to me, in that they would be working together and not separately. But I don’t really want to go the glass on route as I’d like to experiment with different fins.

Use an FCS rail plug.  Do not put the grub screw on the outside as you will end up sanding away even more of the plug.  I have made bonzers and twinzers with some deep chanels using fcs plugs.  Just turn the grub screw deep into the plug before you start sanding.  You will be surprized how you can shape the plug to match the shape of the board.  This is one of the great advantages of the plugs.  I hope this helps and makes sense.

bluenose, if you have any pics of this please post mate, im as well interested in this as I didnt want to put my fins in the middle of the channel.

Hey di99er,

Do you have any fcs bonzer side fins?  The fcs brand bonzers have extra cant built into the base so you don’t have to angle the plug as much.  In my double ender bonzer I did not go with deep channels but the plugs are still shaped.  Tough to see in the picture.  My last bonzer I actually gut the tabs off of the fcs fins and glassed them on.(yellow board)  The fat blue egg has moderate channels with straight rainbow fins (fcs tabs).  I will post the pic of the blue board when I download it from my camera.
