fin plug holes routed to big, fix?

Hi, frist time trying to put fin plugs in and made the holes to big, theres a good 3 to 4 mm gap alway around fin solution plugs. Wot should i do? will it be okay or wot about puting a fin patch over all the tail area and getting a layer of glass over plug holes then recut plug holes to a correct size. the hole in the foam will still be big but at least there will be a layer of glass there .Help.

Ive never done that,,,,,,,,,, well I did,,, but only once..

cut some foam plugs , glass em over and start again

Sounds like you don’t have a jig.  If you do have a jig I can’t figure how you did what you did, but oh well.  I did one worse.  marked the fins wrong and routed the holes.

Take cut off foam and make plugs.  Fit them into the holes with resin, re-route and install the plugs.  If the hole isn’t tight for the box it will swim around and be hard to set.

You can forget the foam and just install the plugs but it will be heavy with all the extra resin.  If its eps there will be a greater chance of exotherm problems.
