Fin question

I have what is probably a silly question, but I’ll ask it anyway. I bought a pair of Larry Gephart wooden keels from Mitch’s for the Fish I just finished shaping. They appear to have been laminated (you can feel the weave) but not hotcoated, and the leading edge is as sharp as the trailing edge.

Do these need to be hotcoated when they are laminated onto the bottom, and the leading edge finished into a more blunt edge ? Or is the correct way to just laminate and fair them into the bottom? Sorry for the lame question but I want to get this done right and I’m confused?

Thanks

You are going to glass them on so you don’t want them to be hotcoated until after you glass them on, since you are going to be adding glass to glass them to the board. You do know how to glass them to the board right? Once you have them glass on you will hot coat them and then sand them and foil them at that time.

Thanks Bagman,

That makes sense now. I am going to have the board glassed at the shop I have been dealing with for a long time. I ASSUMED they would know the proper procedure, but wanted to make sure I understood it in case there were any questions. Thanks for your help
