fin question

okay…i did a search but only really found info on quads and twins

the question is…my girlfriend just got an epoxy…6’4" x 20" x 2.25" bump swallow tail…futures fins

we both rode it and agree something has to be done about the fins…we are on the east coast so the waves are going to be small but mostly morning glass

she is more of a down the line rider so im thinking a bigger set of vectors with a smaller or no trailer? neither of us have a ton of money to experiment with or id have a box’o’fins and wouldnt be asking this question. any advice would be appreciated.

wroboman,

post a picture of the fin set up.

Mike

i dont have a picture right now, but its a traditional thruster set-up…ill have to go home and look at the exact model # on the fins

I can’t necessarily help you out by suggesting fins, but I can say that if there is a Futures Test Drive Center anywhere near you it will probably save you both a lot of money to go and try out a bunch of different fins before you buy a set.

I’m not sure where the nearest one would be, I know there are a couple near the places I surf but unless you’re going to Rhode Island or South Carolina anytime soon that won’t help.

just some random thoughts.

the vector with the hatchet (or no trailer) will loosen the board and make it great for rail to rail transitioning . . .

comparing the vector / hatchet with a regular set of YU thruster fins . . . I notice the vector set up can bust great for turns, but the lack of drive is noticeable. Maybe if I was more skilled, I could stay in power sections of the wave to utilize this. The YU is more balanced, and has more drive, allowing you to power in bottom turns and longer carves. The vector is much easier to lay a turn and carves quick and easy, also recovering from turns is compromised . . . I have executed turns and it bogs and I’m thinking ‘oh this is where the shortboarder must hop. Pump it rail to rail . . .’

Well the first time I threw spray enough the catch notice by the lineup was on vectors. The first time I was able to link 3 maneuvers on a wave was on the YU.

Normally for down the line type surfing, I find that single fins beat out thrusters. Of course I haven’t spent much time on my twin / fish and more time on my single fin egg so I can use the single better.

also go with the fiberglass fins for whatever set you get. The plastic futures feel dead. the RTM composite ones (both the blue, black, or cream colored ones) are ok, but fiberglass ones work and they’re cheaper (than RTM).

Shes got the fjc1’s in there now so i took the trailer from the set of fjc2’s that came with my board and put it in…hopefully that will loosen it up a bit, but those fins are still coming out for something else

listen man, I’ve got literally exactly what you are looking for for sale on surfermag.com Screw teh links, shoot me an email and we’ll get this worked out. I use these fins to make my big guy tri light up in small waves, less pumping, ton of hold and drive. They are big twin fins with vector foil and a small trailer. I dont post on here but i loom around, saw your post and had to hit you up.email me.
