I have been looking for a average quad fin placement... i know the front fins are the same as a thruster were do i put the back fins? Also when you angle the front of the fins inward i heard the best way to do it is to draw a string or line directly from the back of the fin to the nose of the board. Is that right? I notice the industry tends to pic a average measurement and stick with it... I will not be shaping by hand i will be doing my boards on a cnc machine.
Some people (including me) swear by the McKee formula…

McKee’s system answers all your questions, including toe-in.
Haha yeah i dont understand where they get all the formulas and stuff from but i think if i look at it some more ill start to realize why... And these are pretty much basic measurements? Like other board makers dont seem to be to far from different right?
the McKee formula is a good place to start, but it really does depend on your rocker, thickness and outlines that will determine the success of your quad fin placement.
my suggestion would be to try 4 way fin system so that you can change toe-in or out and splay as well as move the fins up or down depending on how it feels ok.
good luck,

No matter what fin system you use, you have to place them somewhere. The McKee specs work, and yea… it’s a good place to start. An adjustable fin system will let you dial it in from there.
agree totally,

i would tell you all the formula settings however someone will crucify me.
PM me if you really want some formulas?
