Fin set up for 6'0" quad fish??

OK, so I picked up a quad fish the other day and I think the fins suck on it. It looked like they were FCS G5’s (all 4) but now it looks like they are some no name fin. I put it next to my G5 and the shape is EXACTLY the same but these are super flexy (I guess they saved money there). Something else is that all the fins are single foil fins, is that right?

Anyway, so here is what I have avail to try, tell me what my best option would be (I weigh 175 surf mostly trestles or other san clemente breaks and even churches when I go out with the guys that like that break).

  1. Use the real G5 system fins (stiffer) in the front and use the flexy ones in the back

  2. Use the G5 in the rear and flexy ones in the front

  3. Use G5 in front and G-L (small longboard sidebits) for the rear

  4. Use G5 rear and G-L front (this would make it really similar to a Twinzer, since the G-L fins sit further back)

Or order something like this? (canard turbo quad system for FCS fins by Rainbow)

I just got done reading some super long threads talking about Quad set ups and templets, but it didn’t help me all that much.

I am thinking that if the surf is bigger, faster I should use the G5 rear and flexy front for more stability?? Other than that I have no clue.

Ideas?

btw, it sure seems like quad set ups are sort of hard to find, not many choices.

From my limited experience with quad fish, I’ve found that bigger fins up front equals more stability, where as bigger fins in the back is looser. Huge differences on the board I was riding so it’s fun to experiment a bit.

adk, Thanks for the reply. So in a similar way a stiffer fin up front would be more stable with a more flexy fin in the rear (that would act more like a smaller fin?)?

Anyone else with any ideas??

Yes. Check Mc KEE’s Surfboards site.

I have looked at that site, but it is more catered to shortboards (not fish) but the principals probably still apply or can be at least helpful.

rodH,

How does the board ride now? I ride Trestles with a pretty loose setup. With a flexy medium setup, I'd guess that it just doesn't pop. You should probably start with you stiffer G-5s in front and then see where you want to go from there. I'd guess for most days at Trestles and Churches probably a samller set of trailers. But, then again I don't know how you like to ride.

What will it be like if you setup the fins with all fcs m5’s
