As the subject line says I’m interested in finding some professional grade matirials such as blanks, fiberglass, and most importantly epoxy resin. I’m not really interested in gluing together used bamboo chopsticks in order to make a HWS. I’m in the Aichi area. If anyone can help out I’d appreciate it and if you are local to me or visit I’d treat you to a day at the beach and some ramen.
I got a pretty usefull PM. Thanks Rob! I’m going to order some of that as soon as I can. If there are any local (in Japan) people around it would be cool to network a bit. I’m also looking for a shipping container.
So, you’ve been to ‘Long Beach’ and ‘Loco’s’?
There used to be a guy named “Yoshi” on here who made some really nice compsands. He stopped posting. i sent him a PM and he said he was to busy, working in surfboard production (glassing I think). Maybe search “Yoshi” and try sending a PM. Maybe he still lurks…
Yeah, dlock, I’ve been to Long Beach and Loko. Do you want to go for a surf?
llilibel03, I’ll try to contact Yoshi. SOunds like he might be able to steer me in the right direction. Thanks!
Should have some decent waves today down that way. I usually catch mine here at Nakatajima or Arai. If we get some big stuff, I sometimes go to Sentan for the wide sets and offshores. Have you checked out that surfshop on 42? The newer one looks like it has a shaping bay away from the retail store in back of the parking area.
Let’s go surf. Shizunami is the closest time wize break to my house. I’ve seen a few surf shops with bays in the back. I don’t want to be a leech though. I’ve got the space and permission to drop a container at my house. I’ve built 3 bays myself and have been involved in one way or another in making a few more. I’m looking forward to this.
I surfed all morning and the rip sucked but I was smilin, must’ve been the air drop I made on that first wave. It didn’t look that big from the beach and kinda surprised me when the backfoot caught some air on the way. My arms ache and I’m booked tonight. Will walk to the beach again in an hour or two then off to work.
I know three different ‘Shizunami’s’, Two in Shizuoka and one in Mikawa bay.
Check your pm tomorrow or come surf Nakatajima today.
If you mean the Shizunami near Katahama and Sagara I know the area well. Was there a couple weeks ago for three or four surfs. Susuki for that big right near the tetras then to Katahama-Sakai ko for the choppy leftovers of that typhoon. The water resembled milk coffee for the two days I was there. The day before was clean at Susuki.
Howzit insane,If you are going to make a hollow board then get in touch with the guys on the east coast who have the kits for sale. Aloha,Kokua
My bad I meant Shiomizaka. Not Shizunami. All of the new names are a bit confusing. I’ll PM you my info. Kokua, I don’t want to build a Wood surfboard. I want to make boards out of toxic substances that surf well. Maybe one day but not today.
Insane, I just moved to Yamaguchi Prefecture. Today I ordered my first batch of resin in Japan from our local surf shop. I think I was the first person to do so. He went through a catalog and made some phone calls for me, and I have 4 liters of PE resin w/ catalyst on the way for 11,000 yen, not entirely sure if it is laminating resin or sanding resin, lol. I didn’t ask about Epoxy. However, if you want I’ll ask if it’s available. Maybe you can order through him. Also, you may check Yahoo auctions Japan. You can get blanks from there, haven’t looked for resin though. Best of luck, not many shapers here it seems, so getting supplies is not as easy. Not to mention finding a place to shape and glass. I think I will post a thread on that in the next couple of days : )
Finally got an account with a well stocked supplier which is a really hard thing to do. Especially when Japanese is not my native language and my wife doesn’t know industry jargon. I’ll be getting shop set up in June and will be making random supply runs after that if any Japan/sways are interested.
Did you hit up manuever? It took me a lot of messing around to get an account there.
I have been in Japan for about a year now, originally form Australia. Well Im Japanese but I grew up in Aus... Just been back here in Japan to set up some distributor for boards... I get most of my supplies sent form Shapers Australia or Manueverline based in Japan. The cost is crazy here, can
t wait to get back to Aus…

Nope not ML. Still working on that. They have aluzine and that’s what I’m familiar with. Where are you at, KMD?
