Hi there,
new to this board, so “Hi” first of all. Been reading a lot for two years now and gotta say this is the best stuff I’ve enjoyed in a while.
Also I’m fairly new to surfing and shaping, yet I already built 3 boards. They came out pretty good as far as I’m concerned but now I wanna take my shaping to the next step and get more, uh, not so random in what I’m doing.
So I’ve been reading alot and learning heaps, lately alot about fins and how they work.
I understand the forces generated by the flow and the AOA the fins have. But to understand the momentum they generate (which turns the board) one needs to know where the pivot point of the board is and therefore how big the lever arm is.
My guess is it’s somewhere between the rocker-apex and the backfoot, but is there a more specific way to locate that point? Also the point moves due to trimming, correct?
I’d be happy if somebody could point me in the right direction.
all the best
