I’m curious. How heavy are your boards working out to be?
How heavy do good production boards weigh? Pro comp boards?
I just completed my first two boards using epoxy resin and epoxy clear coat (one coat top and bottom) and they weigh about 14 lbs each.
Board #1 is an 8’6" mini long board w/ two layers of 6 oz glass on the deck and 1 layer of 6 oz cloth on the bottom. Board #2 was supposed to be an 8’0" fun shape, but looks like a big short board. It has two layers of 4 oz on the deck and 2 layers of 4 oz on the bottom.
i started making board a year ago. i’m on #12. the first one was a 7’x23" “fish” with xps. it weighs 12 lbs. with wooden keels and lots of experimental glass and reglass. An 8’ x23" eps 3x6 deck 2x6 bottom carbon fiber strips top and bottom = 14.5 lbs. An 6-4 xps single fin= 8.5 lbs. An 6-4 eps carbon fiber all the way around = 7 lb(bad glassing on and did not vac bag) . An 6-2 eps carbon fiber(same story)=6.5 lbs. pulled the glass off my fairly new 9’ rusty desert Island and shaped it down to a 7ft single fin egg with 2x6 deck and 2x4 bottom=9.5 lb.
vac bagged a 6-3 swallow tail 2x6 deck 2x4 bottom eps with carbon fiber strips and epoxy and 4 oz strips between the eps(and a gloss coat). had to use lots of filler after i sanded all the wrinkles off= 7.25 lb. a 5-6 fish 2x4 top and bottom and carbon fiber strips between the eps with keel fins and acrylic coat = 6 lbs.
and for more comparison an old 6-2 twin fin Rick is 12 lbs. #12 is a 6-2 “msf” style eps with 2" wood strips carbon fibered between the eps. the shaped blank weighs 2.5 lbs. i’m gonna vac bag carbon fiber deck.
I’m using 1# eps on the above and gloss coated all but the 5-6 fish.
