Finished board

I started my first couple using my name… but I really didn’t like seeing my name blown up into a logo, and it didn’t sound all that good for a surfboard… not to mention something about ‘R Kelly Surfboards’ made me feel like I should only be shaping grom boards… heh. Tried a couple others, going with my Irish heritage, didn’t like those either. Then one day I looked at my street sign and thought ‘Royal Palm Surfboards’ had a nice ring to it.

If you’re not endowed with a cool sounding name (e.g. Rusty, Yater, Merrick) trying going with some sort of theme of something your in to, or something that means something to you. Though you can always fall back on good old letters, pick any two or three, make up the meaning later  Pop an Inc. or LTD, or something on there, and you’re set: SCR Surfboards. Better yet, start designing your logo based on what letters you think look kool in the style of font you’re playing with.

I don’t think you should stress it, something will come sooner or later. Pick something simple, maybe a graphic off the web… if you’re not into the art design. I make the logos because designing them is one of my favorite parts of making a board.

I don’t think boards neccessarily need a logo, but they need something - paint, tints, etc. I’ve seen homemade boards with nothing on them, and they look, well… homemade.

Matt,

Thank you. I painted the bands on the foam with a touch-up gun and acryilic paint. I set out to shape 2 boards and ended up doing 5. My Dad was the first surfer in Ventura, as far as I know. He lived about 2 houses from the beach on Palm Street where the condos are now. He surfed what we call “The Point” in the 1930’s and 40’s. He loved anything and everything Hawaiian, so surfing and playing Island music on his steel guitar were a natural extension of that love. I wanted to incorporate his memory in the surfboards I made so that is how I came up with the logo. I think he would have liked it.

sick boars i hope mine comes out like that

Very nice board mate, keep it up.

Nice Job with the stick Richard,

I’m in the under 10 club as well. I am about to fire up #9 and #10 in vacuum bags over the long weekend. My hat is off as well to all the folks here and this killer resource.

Here are my 2 logos, one done in illustrator

and the other is drawn on with paint pens.

Here is a link to a good source of vector art for inspiration or purchase (cheep) I use sometime (both logos were derived from something I saw here).
