After using poly resin for a while, I tried Resin Research epoxy for my latest board and was very impressed. It was very easy to work with, with no quick timetable to worry about. It sanded easy and didn’t burn through to the cloth on the nose or tail (like I’ve done a thousand times with poly). The hot and gloss coats were easy and I didn’t even need to polish the final gloss. It looked awesome as-is. The only drawbacks were laminating the laps, since the epoxy didn’t flow as easily. Next time I’m doing a tint, so I hope saturating the rails isn’t an issue. I also got a nasty rash on my forearms and lower legs after an hour or so of sanding (I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt.). So from now on I’m wearing a full tyvek suit to ensure that doesn’t happen again. Despite the rash, it was still easier, and a HELL of a lot less smelly than poly.
Thanks to Stingray and everyone else who commented on the “My first epoxy job” thread. It helped tremendously!
