Finished My first board (all thanks to yall)

So here’s my first board, Its a 5’6" fish. I would first and foremost like to thank Mike Paler for this forum. It was the catalyst that started the reaction to shape. I already have another blank ready to be shaped. Ummm…lets see…what else, oh yea, i only have a shot of the top and a shot of the fins because some of my pics got lost on the road to my email box from my friends computer. but the rails go from hard, to tucked in, to round, to tucked back in again about a foot from the nose. Forgot to write down the dimensions and I don’t have a measuring tape on hand. I think it came out very well for my first board and it rides phenomonally. I think i might need to put a larger back fin in because the one I made makes the board kind of squirrely on big bottom turns. I was able to rid it this weekend in head high surf and for the most part it held up well, except for the aformentioned fin problem. Anyways, here is the two shots I have. Sorry for the blurriness.

-Alex P.S.-for chipfish, two side fins are FCS G-AM’s and the center is a trailer I made for myself.

I was and still am stoked that Swaylocks was brought to life by Mr. Paler. When I first visited this site it was basically just the forum. I was so stoked when Mike added the photo section and very surprised at a lot of the first efforts by some of the contributors. The underground lives, keep it alive! MAHALO MIKE…

Wow… that’s the smallest trailer I’ve EVER seen, Doc ! …CAN you actually feel if it’s it working , do you reckon ??

nice spray… did you do it ?

did you glass it , also ?

would you consider : -

  1. putting in a back FU finbox

  2. or, two extra back FCS plugs, for the single fin option also ?

that looks fun…I WOULD be interested in the nose, tail, and pod tip to tip measurements at some stage …

great stuff !

Howzit chip fish, the trailer works ok unless I am making a real hard bottom turn. I can feel it holding in, and then I can feel it release from the water and the tail gets super loose (kind of like a small slide on a skateboard) for an instant and I lose all my speed. I think I am going to find something an inch or two bigger for it. I didn’t spray it myself or glass it because I do not have the facilities set up right for it now. I hope to be able to do that stuff in the future but being a broke college student well…I aint got no cash to make a nice glassing space in my shaping shed right now, plus I wanted my first board to look real good. Anyways, thanks for the compliments.

-Alex

P.S.-I will get you those measurements in the next few days, when ever I need my tape measure, I can never find it.

good job doctor…here’s an instant upgrade…get and use the Rusty fronts instead of the AMs…better hold/drive…much mo bettah
