Thanks for all the help and advice here.
Sanded and polished it out today. It’s a nice finish, but not like a poly board. Close, but not as glossy. Actually liked it when it was sanded Matt at 800 grit.
Going to try spraying nasty PU on next board. See if it’s less work and looks even better.
Great job Tom! We definetly want a ride report from you too.
Hej Parthenon,
I made a prototype of this board, but 4-8, last summer and it’s a phenomenal board. Our conditions are a lot of chop and only wind waves when it’s honking. Small waves if it blows 18-20 knots. So you need a board that is quick and snappy, generates a lot of drive and is challenging. Makes it fun despite crappy waves.
It really levitates when flattened out to initiate a carve, accelerating, but it’s really reactive rail to rail and you can crank into a carve at full speed with ankle movement and it has no upper limit in speed into turn. Exiting last half of carves it drives thru turn not bogging down. And it still rides and carves well slowly if you want to do that too. The 4-8x18 proto only has 2 -3 knot less low-end than my Slingshot 5-0 x22 spacepickel, I have tested back to back in light wind and chop with currents.
I really don’t know what the parts of the design are doing, but I think the bottom forms are the trick, compensates for the generous tail rocker that would otherwise bog down.
This new board is a bit different with deeper channels and 4-10 with a bit more width 1ft off nose. Thinner rails too and massive 10-15 mm deck concave so board is down to 15mm thick is certain areas.
I sold this board, but have exact copy for me on the stands now, deep magenta with green deck. So I’ll let you know in a few months when temps go over 6c.
Next board is a 5-4 for a friend.
Tom,
Well done man. The board looks amazing. Please post pics of your magenta board when done! How are you liking the deck concave? I am investigating putting concave into a regualr surfboard in similar fasion.
Why did you start a new thread? There’s no reason for it…???
My ego is prettty big. You’rs is big too… dump this thread …put it all on the first thread Bro…
Stingray.
Sorry I was lazy.
Can u sell me a blank?
Spx
I don’t know too much about kite surfing but regardless that is some first class work.
Spx,
You can buy blanks from various suppliers, you should search for one near your location.
A finished shaped blank is too fragile to ship anywhere unless it’s specially handled, more or less hand to hand delivery.
And I’m not really in Business. I am making 2 boards friends/aquaintances who are paying small price over materials so I can learn. and a 3rd board for myself.
BTW, this board took 36hrs to make.
