Finless surfboard/kneeboardThe Auga Board

Dear Surfers, Have you ever seen this type of rare surfboard/kneeboard? Do you know
anything about it or have any stories?! It is an “AUGA BOARD” made at
Bing Surfboards in Hermosa Beach California USA during the late 60’s.
Tom Warren and Steve Barger and Craig Forrest (RIP) (The Auga Men) rode
these boards in the South Bay (Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan
Beach) doing 360’s all over the place. They then moved to Maui in the
early 70’s and really flowed with the waves on the Auga Board blowing
peoples minds.
They were in a movie called “The Sunshine Sea”
doing many, many 360’s at Lahaina Harbor by Greg MacGillavray/Freeman!
Steve Bingham featured the Auga Men in his movie “Planet Aura”. John
Severson included them in his movie “Pacific Vibrations”. “Surfer
Magazine” had photos of the Auga Men in an article about fins in the
early 1970’s. Gerry Lopez was very impressed with their Auga Board.

The board is 4’10" long, 22" wide, 18" nose (12" up), 21" tail, 4"
maximum thickness, rocker- nose 3", tail 1/2", CONCAVE in the tail 13"
long by 14" width by 1 1/2" depth, red- color in the resin, a black pin
line on the ENTIRE BOTTOM of the board that says “Auga Board”. Bing
Surfboards late 60’s logo on top. Possibly reshaped from a broken
longboard or paddleboard.
I showed the board to Bing Copland at
his book signing in 2010 and he did not think there were any Auga boards
with Bing logos that survived! I am working on documenting the Auga
board in print and video, please contact me with stories or other
information on the Auga Board or Auga Men.? Thanks, Vince Ray,

A friend of mine, Steve Friedman tells me about how he rode the Auga board in the 70’s back in Maui, said it was a blast too. Maybe you could contact him for some feedback?
