finpanel color question

I am making a fin panel, and have never attempted to do a swirl or abstract. I am gaining an understanding of how this works on a foam core board, but how do you keep the colors separate in the panel? I was thinking to do an abstract on the first few layers and then adding more clear layers after it has gone off. I also understand that I should seal and sand the first color panel before adding more layers.  Am I on the right track? Any help or tips greatly appreciated.

…are you doing a multi-pigmented layers panel , pico , is that what you mean ?

like the 1970s single fins often were ?

cheers !

I wanted to do a panel much the ones you post, with multi colors in an abstract. Im just wondering how you keep the colors from mudding up when you pull the resin or roll it into the fabric?

pico,

why don't you do a clear fin and then once it is foiled glass over it with the swirl job you want.

yes , that is an option too..

it depends if you want the swirl on the inside edge of the fin or the outside edge .

I guess , doing it on the inside edge , you don't have to worry about curves....

'Pico'  , you can do it in the resin , like that one I recently posted [the red one] , or you can lay down the resin , clear , then a couple of layers of cloth , roller , then apply your swirl .

I'm sure there are plenty of other ways to do it , too...

I'd love to hear from OTHERS ,  what they do , as I am only a hobbyist .

I'm sure 'Probox' [Robin Mair] and 'Lokbox' [Jim Robertson] , and possibly some 'lurkers' here [?'finfection? are you still here ? 'halcyon' , too ?] would be PROS at this , so their input would be very valuable !

Anyway , go ahead and DO it , Pico !

.... and , please , post photos here of the process you come up with , eh ?! ...I , for one , would be stoked , and encouraged !!

  cheers mate !

"Im just wondering how you keep the colors from mudding up when you pull the resin or roll it into the fabric?"

 thinking about it ,

I get less "mud"  when I do it pouring the swirled resin onto the glass plate , before the fibreglass cloth is put down .

? I guess that may be because the resin kinda soaks 'upwards ' through the cloth , and the patterns kinda establish themselves / "stay put" more , that way ?  [if that makes sense ?]

That is just my experience up till now, though ...who knows , the next one could go horribly wrong and make me appear a complete dufus eh ?!  ha !

  cheers

thanks chippy,

That recent red abstract panel you did was inspiring. Well here goes…

progress.

GOOD on ya , 'Pico' !!!  I can't wait to see what board you put them on !! thanks HEAPS for posting that !! ....

....I LOVE it when people share photos of their projects and progress , it's the MAIN reason I keep coming back here daily !! [yes , 'Stingray' , I check your thread of 'current projects' , REGULARLY !!]

  cheers !

very nice fins pico…

one guy told me months ago that this shaping thing is addictive and he was so damn right. This week i have lots of exams and i’m on swaylocks instead of studying … the admins have to ban and brain wash me.
