Fins cause skin irritation?

I took out the longboard the other day after a long layoff. At the water’s edge I rubbed both sides the Futures fins, they felt rough.

Later, my skin felt like it had a billion little sharp bits embedded. I couldn’t see any, but the wife could feel them too.

I smeared on some skin lotion (mostly mineral oil I think) and cleaned it off with a paper towel. Better, but not gone.

Anyone ever had this issue before, and what to do about it? A day later and the feeling of shards embedded in my skin is gone.

Wet sand with 400 grit, dry and spray some UPOL or Krylon clear.  That should seal it up.  Neither of those spray coating will last forever so if the fins need it again at some point, repeat.

Was the board left in the sun for awhile?

Stop rubbing your fins...you'll go blind.

John: the fins have seen no unusual exposure - either in my enclosed garage or in the water. 220 grit should clean them up just fine; the Krylon would be the icing on the cake.

Resinhead… you bad.

oops, delete double post.

I've left windsurf masts and kayak paddles outside and had the same thing happen.  No comment as to why it might happen with fins on a board stored indoors.

What materials are these fins made of? G10?

No idea what g10 might be.  The fins are 7 years old and appear to be white plastic of some sort.
