Some of you may remember me from a few years back, I am a surfer from the Great Lakes, and I used to travel the US a lot with my truck making deliveries and surfing. On vacation, I frequently traveled to Africa.
I have been having a multitude of health problems that have triggered many changes in my life, but I am on the upward swing. That’s another subject for another day. One of our brothers is in need and it is not me.
Patrick Bikoumou, one of Congo’s greatest surfers, lost his family home to fire recently. Fire department does not exist there. No insurance. This man invited me to his country and let me put my tent on his property and surf on his beach, and now I am in a place I may be able to return the favor.
I was planning to return to Congo in 2016 for a month or more, but I have offered to him to move my trip up to help rebuild, if he decides to. Regardless, he will need help and needs to replace many things that were lost. Did you know you can’t even buy a leash in Congo? No surf shop!
I am looking for any and all support I can take with me, items to pack in baggage for him and the family, money to help pay for living expenses (my flight is free, miles) and am open to traveling with others if anybody wants to assemble a crew to support him. You would be responsible for travel expenses, but I can assist with making arrangements. Contact me here or find me on Facebook Billy McCoy. Patrick is also on Facebook and of course the Bikoumou surfing family is all over Google.
Let’s send a message to our surf brothers in West Africa that we’re here to help!
