First board concave make it flat....

Firstly I must say - I have spent 12 hours (courtesy of a quiet night shift) researching every gammet of swaylocks and have learnt absolute shed loads regarding bottoms.

Despite having read and feel i have a good handle on bottoms it doeas not add up to practical experience, given there are alot of good points to a flat bottom and that i can change the performance with different fins.

I should beypnd all doubt do a flat bottom yes? Flat rocker with a little nose kick and 5'10 by 22 by 2 with full rails this board is going to be quick anyway and with speed comes easy manaouverabilty.

what is the ole catch cry crawl before you walk?

Flat bottoms work just fine mate. Do it!

flat is fast and fast is good.  concave makes your board flatter and faster.

To True

Flatter bottoms are faster but harder to turn

Curvier bottoms are slower and easier to turn

A single concave  through the middle give flatter down the center and curvier on the rails.

When you are going straight, the board goes faster because of a flatter rocker.

Put the board on the rail and the curvier rail rocker makes turning easier.

Now all that said, there are way too many variables for it to be that simple.

You also have to consider fin positions, cant, board foil, rail edge etc.

My advice would be to make it flat and put a small vee in the last 1/3rd of the board.

Still flatter through the center and curvier along the rails.

A vee will also help with rail to rail transitions

Good luck

Cheers

Flat as a beginner is safe......? On a few of the one pound boards i ''practiced" on as soon as i started shaping in my bottom curves it all went pear shaped....

I will make my rails a little more forgiving perhaps on the bottom edge as at 22" wide and only 2" thick I need to turn of something. I will keep them sharp in the tail and lead into a sorft bottom rail.

nice little single to vee (convex) in the tail couldnt help myself.......how even do they have to be?- im fairly impressed with this and when i run a straight edge along it im fairly happy.
