Howzit - I finished my first board. The pictures had to be really small to attach - and I suck with computers. Hope you can see’em. It came out rideable and was fun to ride. Lots of orange peel on top but none on the bottom?? Should I wipe the lam coat with alcohol? Also should the lam coat be wet looking or squeegied to the cloth? My board is a little heavy. Special mahalo to Kokua for the fins and great tips and royce at Pau hana surf for the cool bioblanks. It shaped very smooth and nice. Second one allready skinned. This one is 5’11" x 19.5 x 2.2. All advice is great. Mahalo’s
A couple of things can cause orange peel… Rain on wet resin; dirty surface; dirty brush… you should tell us what kind of resin and climate conditions you operated in.
If using polyester resin, no alcohol.
Lam coat should show the weave of the cloth, but not have little tiny holes between the cloth “threads”.
First boards are often heavy, no worries on that one.
The single best thing you can do is get someone over to supervise at least your first, or now your next, glass job. There are a lot of glassing videos on Utube that can provide good advice; some are even narrated. Glassing isn’t mentally challenging, but there are a small handful of little things to be watchful of/for. Most have come up on this forum, over and over, less so lately than a few years ago.
Can’t offer advice about the pics, but know that resolution and photo size are two different things.
Hey Chrisupp
with regards to youtube videos on glassing, I learned heaps from this one. I learned most importantly that I’m rubbish at it.

Its in 3 parts, and a joy to watch.
Peace!
Aloha - I was using poly in a slight rain during the deck laminate. My shop is enclosed but the fan opening could have let in some mist. Hilo rains! So is the alcohol wipe for epoxy only? Also can I skip the finish resin and spray polycrylic onto the hot coat? Mahalo
If you can’t use alcohol with poly to clean - can I use acetone instead. Is alcohol for epoxy only? Between coats of resin? Mahalo’s
