One of my favorite things on this website is following build threads. I feel like watching the process is awesome, and it seems each threat is filled with immense insight into the process… Anyways, this is my first attempt at one of these threads (Not my first board though). I am going to make a 5’2" quad fin biscuit thing. The blank is a Marko EPS, and will be glassed with double 4oz E-glass on top, with a single 4oz on bottom. For resin I am going with Resin Research Kwick Kick. Im sure there will be many things that I do not do correctly, but as a self taught “backyarder” I try my best.
Earlier today I also made a tool to square up the rails. I know im not the first to do this, but the tool came out great so I thought I would share it…
Please feel free to tell what Im doing wrong…Here we go!
Today I began the templeting process, and will true it up tomorrow.
Can you please let us know how it shapes? I use surfblanks normally, but i can get marko and RR 20 minutes away. Its tempting to try as driving 2 hours each way to brookevale takes years off my life!.
I have shaped a couple on the marko and it works great…Actually on my first board I didnt even seal…Iguess it didn’t need it, but I simply didnt even know you were supposed to ahah. I think I have heard NJ Surfer on here says that he never seals his marko blanks either. Just sands to 150? Either way, the RR works great, and have absolutely no complaints… My first board has been to hell and back and is still going strong on this same set up…
Hope to true up the outline today, and possibly begin the foil.
I really like the 2 Marko blanks that I’ve shaped. I didn’t seal them and it seems fine. I just picked up another Marko blank from Stretch in Santa Cruz.
Outline was a little off, so I cleaned it up today, and its beginning to look good. Took the time to make my plan, 2 1/2 Nose rocker with 1 1/2 tail rocker. Width is 19" and going to make it 2" thick. Should be a fun little board… hope to foil tom, and do the deck on Saturday…
Was planning on painting the board with a brush… picked up some paint from the surf shop, but I dont have an air compressor so this is my only option (Besides Spray Paint). Has anyone had success with painting a surfboard with a brush? I know it can be done, but look good??
Whats goin on, Hope the Right coast guys are all ok… Or getting the best barrels of their lives! hah… Anyways shaped today and it came out pretty good… here some shots.
