Well,
this is a little overdue since the board already saw the indian ocean twice, but I thought I would share this with you all. Without the patience and help on this forum this would have been even more of a desaster than it already was, and I am pretty sure some of the seasoned vets will cringe at the mistakes I made, but I thouroughly enjoyed the process and the face of my girlfriend at christmas was worth all the hassle. and the thing surfs…
I started with a template off of blendingcurves and because printing it on one sheet of paper I thought taping the ten pages together would be a smart solution. After drawing said outline on the blank and flipping it for the other side I measured at key points to see if I got it right, and of course I didn’t. Turns out paper is to wonky to get the two sides equal. So I went and transferred the outline on to some thin and bendable wood. That produced an even outline afterall…
After foiling the blank it looked really messed up and I decided to shorten it even more and cut of some inches of the tail, changed the curve until it looked “right” and foiled it again. (foiling is something that I will look into again for my next board.)
From there I did the rails and everything felt really alright…
I freehanded the boxes and you can see that on the center box the wooden stringer knocked me off my path, but it still worked out somehow. I laminated them in, patched over them and there I had my 5-fin set up…
Laminating was a total desaster but I can’t find the pics anymore. they are somewhere on here already, but with a lot of advice from you guys here and help from my father we finally got this done. A friend of mine did the logo with my girlfriend’s initials and these are actually the only pics of this step I have…
Hot Coat went rather smooth compared to the rest and sanding is without pictures because they are on my dad’s phone. I will add them for the sake of completion once I get them. The last two pics show my girlfriend at christmas and the shpaing stand I built beforehand.
greetings from Germany,
Sebastian
