And the process for #1 is complete.
I shaped 2 previous blanks over the past couple weeks, but both ended up having some major issues so they ended up turning into practice blanks.
This one is a stringerless 2lb EPS. It does have a glue line where I glued the blank together. I found having a centerline was a big help. I also found the white gorilla glue doesn't sand or plane as well as the regular brown stuff.
The board is 5'10 x 20.25" x 2.25 Single concave to Vee behind the front fins. Nose rocker is around 4.75" and the tail is around 2". It is set up as a quad and depending on how it rides might get a center fin box. I have been into quads a lot on my smaller wave boards so I'm hoping the quad goes ok.This will be my first diamond tail, not sure if there will be any sort of noticible difference from a square or squash.
Glassing is 2x 4oz S cloth bottom and 6oz E and 4oz S cloth deck. RR2100 Epoxy was used along with the probox fin system.
The learning curve was pretty noticible for me especially in glassing and sanding. When it comes to glassing and sanding you definitely have to develop a feel for them. Sanding through the hotcoat was pretty easy! The biggest problem I ran into was not leveling off the bumpy laps. That led to problems the rest of the way. In the end it came out ok in my book. Most importantly everything is symmetrical and looks like it should work. A little flat black Krylon on the rails and it looks a lot sharper. The asthetics should improve with more experience. As a side note the clear flat acrylic spray does a good job hiding the shiny spots left behind after sanding from the fish eyes.
Anyways here are some pictures.
At home in the stable! It has a 5'6" Coil disk among others for a neighbor.
