First go with Epoxy...I'm hooked

I just started the lam process on a longboard with RR epoxy, and all my trepidation at trying something new and unknown disappeared as soon as I got the bottom done. This stuff is great!

Not only is the smell practically non-existent, it does what I always wished polyester resin would do: It doesn’t “kick” all of a sudden. Once poly resin kicks, bubbles and dry spots are a pain to deal with, and maybe they’ll be there forever. But with epoxy, it thickens slowly and evenly allowing you to work out the bubbles. And it seems to soak into the foam on it’s own. Easy to cut the tape line. Man, I love this stuff. I highly recommend giving it a try.

Well here goes a shift in my perception of the board-building process, and the start of an interesting new adventure. Doug

wait until you start wetting your glass out on a piece of poly and then transferring it to the blank rather than lamming on the foam…weight savings and easier lapping. That was the big breakthrough on my last board…

could you post some photos of how you do it? do you precut the glass or cut it when it is wet? do you roll the glass and the polly and then unroll it on the board?..

Great White, I’m intrigued with that method, and would also like to see some photos. Some resin has to get into the foam though. Do you get a good bond to the foam with your method? Doug.
