first shaping attempt gone absolutely too well

As a long time lurker of these forums I love reading about all you guys who have made your own boards. I have been thinking about creating a board of my own for a long while now and with the  assistance of a seasoned shaper I figured it was time to jump in and have a go. I live on the gulf coast of florida where knee high mushy waves still make us crap ourselves with excitement (at least I do, I’ll take anything I can get haha). So, since I have a fish already, I decided to expand the quiver a bit and make a board I have been eyeing for quite a while. I had heard of the Al Merrick Flyer a while back and after trying out a buddy’s on some small waves decided it was definitely the board for me. I really only borrowed the shape from this board as I adjusted virtually all of the dimensions to fit my preference. I absolutely loved making this board, it was a really great experience
and I will definitely be continuing. Since pictures are worth a thousand words, I’ll just go ahead and let them do the explaining.

Thinned out my nose just a bit too much but was able to fix it pretty easily. Other than that shaping went really well.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys, I’m really excited to start working on my second board already! Looks like I’ll be putting together a fish for my girlfriend next …sweeeeeeeet…
