First Single Fin board, Help please.

Hi everyone, Im probably between intermediate and advanced surfer. I have surfed a lot and travelled a lot but I really want to smoothen out my surfing style. Im riding a 5’11 x 18 7/8 x 2 3/8 shortboard, its great for the small and messy days, and when its 8 foot and hollow i ride a 6’3 x 18 1/2 x 2 3/8 pintail slab board and i love it. Ive got a 7’3 joel tudor single fin template but is this too big for a first single fin? I want it for when its 3 foot to 8 foot really. what would you guys recommend?

Since your next biggest board is a 6’3", I’d say a foot extra will be a bit much. Scale it back to around 6’8" or so. A 7’3" single fin is going to feel really stiff in comparison to a 6’3.

I ride roughly the same boards.  The below pic is what I made.  it works well.  Single to double concave  5,11ft X19.5" wide with a norrow tail for a fish.  Check out imaganarium for some inspiration.

you will definately have to plan your wave better

Did you post the wrong photo? That’s a swallowtail with a 2+1 configuration, from what I can see. Not a fish or a single fin
