First Skil 100

So i just purchased my first skil 100 and was wondering if there were any modifications that i could make to it. I already replaced the cord adding a 10’, but was wondering if i should cut the base on it? I shape a wide variety of boards so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi mgarbutt,

It would probably be more useful if you cut it down, etc for shaping a wide variety of boards.  But, I would have a hard time permanently altering a beautiful, classic tool like that.  My grandfather’s would probably haunt my dreams for mistreating a tool so valuable and perfectly designed. Mike

Is It hard to find parts for this classic tool?..I use a Hitachi and they shit em selves all the time…What about things like blades for thr SKIL 100, what, just sharpen them yourself or can you still buy the barrels??? I’m an Aussie and don’t know much about them at all. They Look cool though!

I do not recommend that you shorten the base.     If  a shorter base is needed for tight work, get a cheapie at HD, or HF.    I like a longer cord than 10 ft, but that's just me.    There is good support for skil 100 owners on Swalocks.    PeteC, and Feltzer come readily to mind.

Howzit Bill, I agree as far a cord length goes. I usually cut the female end off a 25" 12  gauge cord and rewire it to the tool of choice or planer in this case.Aloha,Kokua
